When it comes to building a successful business, choosing the right team member is crucial. Not only can they help drive profitability for your business, but if done INCORRECTLY, they can very well BREAK the business reputation & internal team.

1. Define your Brand and Company Culture

Before looking for candidates, make sure to be very aware of what your brand and company culture is. Sometimes we operate in a survival mode (especially in the early years of an agency) that we don't even think about company culture. Or maybe it's your first employee, so you don't even know what kind of team you will have. Having a vision for your company culture will help you identify the traits & characteristics you want to see in potential employees.

2. Rank Skills & Expectations

The next step, of course, is identifying the skills they should have. And then, most importantly, rank the importance of each skill. You will never find the perfect candidate, but when you compare 2 or 3 of them, you should weigh their benefits by the order of importance of the skills & experience they each have.

3. Strong Personal Brand

When reviewing resumes or conducting interviews, look for candidates with a strong personal brand. This can include a well-curated social media presence (Linkedin or Instagram) & a good portfolio or code repository demonstrating their skills. Those who have a strong online brand, show they are passionate about their career.
